Well I decide to buy one and check it out by myself. The buying experience was wonderful. I got the product in my mail like in 3 days (That's extremely good here in Puerto Rico).

Yesterday I tried it for the 1st time the Smokenator. At the beginning I was a little anxious to see if I was going to be able to control the temperature at 230-240. The breeze was my biggest concern. Wind speed was like 20mph when I start the charcoals. Using Don instructions, I decided to close the lower vent to 3/8" and adjust the upper vent in my weber performer kettle. The product worked like a charm. It maintains the temperature between 230 and 240 for about 5 hours. After that, I decided to let it work dry in order to develop a crust on my ribs. Amazing results.

One suggestion that I may have, will be to have a handle in the water pan. In this way you can remove it without the risk of burning yourself. It was difficult for me trying to get the water pan out in order to spread the charcoals evenly across the kettle.

Thanks again to Don for all his wonderful advises over emails and for an excellent product.

Jose

Jose,
What's going on? I just sent you an email to your gmail account. It was regarding a personal question regarding where to find lump charcoal and wood chunks in P.R. I wanna hookup my brother with this book and a WSM for a surprise Christmas gift, but I'm not sure if he's going to be able to find the needed supplies.

Thanks.

Hello
Sorry for the late respose. I am right now in Orlando, FL
enjoying a week with my family on vacations.

Regarding your question you can find almost everything
in Home Depot They have all kind of charcoals and wood chunks.

The only thing that i haven't see in any store in PR is the WSM.
You can get weber kettles and offset smokers bu the WSM will
have to be send via parcel post. I saw the box in a website
and it is huge. I cannot imagine what the shipping cost may be.

Also during Xmas season all stores remove most of the BBQ things. It's not very popular to do BBQ in Xmas.

Sounds good! I was going to order everything from Amazon and have it shipped directly to him (free shipping :D ).

Thanks for the info.

Wow this thing seem pretty sweet, I might even have to give this a go. For the price seems like a very good setup if you already have a kettle...and most of use do.
